Bo Bun (French Vietnamese Beef Noodle Bowl)

Deliciousness happens when you add French-style beef to a savory bowl of rice noodles and veggies.



  • 5 oz beef, cut into strips
  • ½ white onion, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 4 Tbsp nuoc mam sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 4 oz rice vermicelli noodles, cooked
  • Chopped lettuce
  • ¼ cucumber, diced
  • Mint leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • Roasted, salted peanuts, chopped
  • Spring roll sauce

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Place beef in a medium bowl. Add onions, soy sauce, cinnamon, garlic, oyster sauce, nuoc mam sauce, sunflower oil and star anise. Stir to combine.
  2. In a skillet, pour some sunflower oil. Add beef and marinade, and sauté until cooked through.
  3. In a small bowl, add carrots, sesame oil, white vinegar and boiling water.
  4. Place rice noodles in a serving bowl. Top with beef, chopped lettuce, carrots, cucumber, mint and coriander leaves, and peanuts. Pour spring roll sauce over top.
