Braided Hot Dogs

Two hot dogs rest on a freshly braided bread roll with a thick layer of guacamole, salsa, and cheese on top.

Ingredients

  • 4 sausages
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese, cut in half
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • Store-bought salsa
  • Bread dough:
  • 1 1/4 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1/3 cup + 1 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 3/4 tablespoons butter
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons water
  • Guacamole:
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1/8 onion, chopped
  • Salt & pepper

Let's get Cooking...

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all bread dough ingredients, and let rise for 30 minutes at 100 degrees F.
  2. Divide dough into 2 pieces. Roll out each piece of dough, and slice into 6 long strips, leaving about an inch of dough joined at the top. Braid the 3 strips on the right together, then the 3 strips on the left. Join bottoms of braids and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add two sausages to the middle of each bun. Let rise for 10 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  4. Cut the avocado in half, and remove flesh. Add to a bowl, along the rest of the guacamole ingredients. Stir until combined.
  5. Divide guacamole between the two buns, then top with cheese.
  6. Brush braided buns with egg wash, then bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Top sausages with salsa and serve!
