These meaty, saucy rolls will make you crave cabbage.

  • Cabbage rolls:
  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 1/2 cups white rice, cooked
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 (28 ounces) cans of diced tomato
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • Chopped parsley, to garnish

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Core and blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain and run under cold water. Set aside.
  2. Make the sauce. In a large saucepan, heat oil and sauté garlic. Add the diced tomatoes and cook for 3 minutes. Add the vinegar, sugar, bay leaf and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer until the sauce thickens. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine rice, ground beef, ground pork, onions, garlic, and salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Assemble. Take a cabbage leaf and spoon the filling closer to the edge where the core was. Roll and tuck the sides in.
  5. Place cabbage seam side down into dish. Repeat until you have used up all the filling or cabbage leaves.
  6. Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls. Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 1/2 hours, or until the meat is cooked.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley. Enjoy.
