Char Siu Ribs

Marinate your ribs the Cantonese way to enjoy irresistible savory deliciousness.



  • 3-pound rack baby back pork ribs
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder
  • Marinade:
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons grated onion
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • Chopped scallions, for garnish

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Rub five-spice powder all over the ribs. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Pour marinade over ribs and rub in. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove ribs, wipe off excess marinade and reserve marinade for later. Prepare baking sheet with foil, cover ribs with foil and roast for 1 hour.
  4. Cut open foil, brush ribs with marinade and roast for another 20 minutes at 450 degrees. Brush marinade over ribs every 5 minutes. Rest for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting.
  5. Serve with scallions as garnish.
