Animal-Style Cheeseburger Meatloaf

Enjoy In-N-Out's secret "animal-style" items, but want to stay in for dinner? Try this delicious meatloaf covered in beer cheese and animal-style sauce.


Servings: 1 Loaf


  • For the meatloaf:
  • 2 pounds ground beef chuck
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1/4 cup sweet relish
  • 3 slices cheddar cheese, diced
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onions, to serve
  • For the animal-style special sauce:
  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • For the burger beer cheese sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons sweet relish

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and grease a nonstick loaf pan.
  2. Make the meatloaf: Assemble all ingredients for the meatloaf in a large bowl and mix to combine. Transfer to the loaf pan and bake for one hour. Remove and let cool before transferring to a plate.
  3. Make the animal sauce: In a small bowl, stir together all the ingredients and set aside.
  4. Make the beer cheese: In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter and cook the onion until softened. Add flour and cook until starting to brown. Stir in the beer and cook for about 10 minutes, until reduced by half. Stir in cream, cheese and onion salt, and whisk until smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in mustard, ketchup and relish.
  5. To serve the meatloaf, pour the cheese sauce over, add caramelized onions and special sauce, and slice.
