Deluxe Shrimp Burger

We're making a homemade version of one of McDonald's of Korea's favorite burgers, the Deluxe Shrimp Burger.

Servings: 2 to 4

Ingredients

  • For the spicy tartar sauce:
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons pickled jalapeño, diced small
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Pinch of salt & pepper
  • For the shrimp patties:
  • 1 pound small (51/60) shrimp, deveined, peeled and tails removed
  • 1/4 cup tempura powder
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt & pepper
  • 4 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • Frying oil
  • To assemble:
  • 4 sesame buns
  • Butter
  • Green lettuce or butter leaf
  • 4 slices cheddar or American cheese

Let's get Cooking...

  1. In a small bowl, combine all ingredients for tartar sauce, and set aside.
  2. In a food processor, add half the shrimp and blend until it reaches a smooth and sticky paste texture. Combine this with the remaining whole shrimp, tempura powder, egg, salt and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Spread panko on a large plate and mix with water.
  4. Scoop half of the shrimp mixture on top of the panko and coat evenly while shaping into a patty. Transfer to the skillet, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
  5. Spread butter on buns and toast until golden. On each bottom bun, add cheese, a shrimp patty, lettuce and tartar sauce. Cover with the top bun. If desired, make it double. Enjoy!
