For a fruit-forward twist on French toast, change out the maple stuff for this sweet strawberry syrup instead.
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon sugar
1 loaf sandwich or brioche bread
Powdered sugar (optional)
Whipped cream (optional)
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 cups sliced strawberries

In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, add water and sugar. Whisk until sugar has dissolved. Add strawberries and cook until soft and mushy and sauce is thick. Once finished, remove from heat and let cool.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and sugar. Set aside.
Slice bread into thick pieces. Coat each bread slice with French toast mixture.
Place a pan on medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Cook bread for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Remove from pan and serve with homemade strawberry syrup, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Top with sprinkled powdered sugar.
