Latte Art Mug Cake

Have no doubt about it — you're going to adore this easy and artistic microwave mug cake a lot!



  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Royal Icing:
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon meringue powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons water
  • Brown food coloring
  • Chocolate candy melts

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Whisk together flour, sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in remaining ingredients, and pour into microwave-safe mug. Microwave at high power for about 2 minutes, keeping a close eye on the cake. Let cool completely before decorating.
  2. Beat Royal Icing ingredients for 7-10 minutes. Reserve 1/4 cup white icing, and color the remaining icing brown.
  3. Top mug cake with brown royal icing. Let set for 2 minutes, then add decorations with white icing. Let set for 5 minutes, then with melted chocolate decorations.
