Smiley Face Onigirazu

You'll be happy to see and eat these yummy grinning rice balls.



  • 300 grams cooked rice
  • 2 sheets nori
  • 1 teaspoon yukari (salted red perilla)
  • 1 tablespoon sakura denbu (pink fish flakes)
  • 2 sticks chikuwa fish sticks
  • 2 mini cucumbers
  • 2 green beans
  • 30 grams cheese
  • 2 sticks imitation crab
  • 1 mini sausage
  • 2 quail eggs
  • Broccoli
  • Lettuce
  • Cherry tomatoes

Let's get Cooking...

  1. Evenly divide the rice into two separate bowls. Add in yukari into one bowl and mix well. Add the sakura denbu into the other bowl of rice and mix well.
  2. Lay a large sheet of plastic wrap onto your work surface. Place a sheet of nori on top. Put half of one bowl of rice mixture onto the center of the nori.
  3. Place ingredients on top as shown in the video.
  4. Place the other half of rice mixture on top and wrap tightly with the nori and plastic wrap.
  5. Repeat again with the other sheet of nori and bowl of rice to make one more onigirazu.
  6. Cut in half and transfer to a plate or bento box. Garnish with broccoli, lettuce and cherry tomatoes.
